ARB Recovery Damper

A recovery damper adds mass to a winch line or strap so a failure has less freedom to whip through the recovery area. It also makes the loaded line easier for bystanders to see, which is useful when attention starts drifting during a long extraction.

We consider it supporting safety gear, not a substitute for clearing the zone. Everyone who does not need to be near the vehicles should be well away from the loaded line, and nobody should straddle or step over it. The goal is to make a recovery boring—and boring is exactly what you want when thousands of pounds are connected by tensioned gear.
